Our Curriculum Model for 11-19

Many schools have three years in KS3. Our curriculum has just two with an opportunity to study one GCSE in Year 9 and study more GCSE or equivalent subjects in Years 10-11. This is a 2:1:2 curriculum model.

The Structure of our curriculum:

Our curriculum is organised on the basis of four key stages and thirteen subjects, which are called ‘core’ and ‘ foundation’ subjects.
This table shows how our the curriculum is delivered from the age of 5 to 18. There are several learning phases which are called Key Stages. Key Stage 1 & 2 take place in our primary schools. There are three Key stages in the secondary learning phase. The diagram below shows which subjects are studied at each key stage.

 Core Subjects

    These are the subjects that are compulsory in all Key Stages from 1 to 4 
 RE  Religious Education is a core subject in Key Stages 3-5. The spiritual life of
the school also includes time on retreats, liturgy, RE days and assemblies.

These are the subjects which are compulsory in Key Stages 1-3 and which develop the basic
knowledge and skills and which pupils may include in their option choices in Key Stage 4     
 Art
 PSHEE  Personal, social, health & economic education is delivered by a programme of flexible timetable days. These include sex & relationship education in KS3/4.
 Computer Science
 Design and Technology
 Modern Languages All students study
French or Spanish
 Geography
 History
 Music

 

The organisation of our year groups

We have a ten form entry. Each year cohort is organised into 3 or 4 form groups which are called 'bands'. There are three bands X, Y, & Z. The example below illustrates what the 'banding' arrangements look like.
